Trouillas, a village of Catalonian winegrowers in the Roussillon.

The first vines were introduced by the Greeks in the 8th and 7th century B.C.
The Catalans then commercialized the iron found in the sacred mountain of the Pyrenees: “The Canigou”. Climate and Soil were favorable for the winegrowing.
Later in the 13th and 14th century, legend says, that the Vin Doux Naturel (muted wine) was first produced here in Trouillas from one of the court physician of the king of Mallorca: Arno de Villanova. He lived close to the commanderie of the Templars, the Mas Deu.
In the beginning of the 1920th, after having dismantled the vineyards of the Mas, a multitude of workers found themselves small proprietors. Not having any possibility in their houses to maturing the wine, they united themselves to create their own cooperative cave in 1927: Such as the cellar of Trouillas was born.
Nowadays, the “cellier” follows the cycle of both the production and the consumption market. Nevertheless, since a few years, it is being oriented towards the more quality conscious Appellation Controlee: Cotes du Roussillon, Muscat de Rivesaltes and Rivesaltes.
The dynamic of the “cellier” is always connected to the men who are working for it: Those who produce the wine, who consume and who sell it, each of them is responsible for the market. Thus why they are all ear to you.

Cheers!
